The Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian life” (CCC 1324), uniting us intimately with Christ through the reception of His Body and Blood. Instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper, the Eucharist is the true presence of Christ—body, blood, soul, and divinity—under the appearances of bread and wine (CCC 1374). This sacrament strengthens our communion with God and with one another, nourishes our spiritual life, and deepens our participation in the Church. “The Eucharist makes the Church” (CCC 1396), bringing us together as one body in Christ. It also serves as a foretaste of the heavenly banquet, where we will one day be fully united with God. Frequent reception of the Eucharist helps us grow in holiness and strengthens us against sin.
